Window Tint Benefits

Q: Why should I get window tinting? What are the benefits?

A. Well! Take a seat while I list them off! Firstly, window tinting is great for the overall aesthetics of your home or building.  Whilst looking good, it can also deter preying eyes trying to look inside with added Privacy, you enjoy the view with the comfort of discretion. Tinting can help with the directional orientation of your home by reducing the morning sun or afternoon glare. Some window films can dramatically reduce your power costs by reducing the heat in summer and retaining the heat during winter. No more faded furniture with added 99% UV protection. Lastly, did you know that window tinting can give you added security to your home or workplace? There is a range of security films to prevent break-ins and injuries from glass shards. No matter what your needs or wants, there is a window film for you!

Reduce Power Costs

Q. How can I reduce my Cooling bill in summer? Can window tinting help with reducing power costs?

Yes, window tinting will help in reducing the heat coming in, it is less work for your air conditioner to manage. So many of Happy Tint window films’ primary purpose is for heat reduction, even though that have a very subtle appearance. The special particles in the film manufacturing process can keep the heat in during winter and the heat out during summer, thus helping your power costs all year round!

Privacy

Q. Does tinting give you privacy day and night?

A. In short, no, if there existed such a film, we would be billionaires! 😊 There is no window film that can give you privacy day and night. Wherever the light is greatest is where you can see in. So, during daylight hours, you will enjoy terrific privacy, but at night, when the lights are on, and there is darkness outside, you will be able to see in.

Frost (obscure film) can give you privacy day and night whilst still allowing natural light to come in. Frost is most popular with Front Doors, bathrooms and wet spaces so no nosey eyes can peak in.

Room Light

Q. Will window tinting make the room darker?

A. There are literally thousands of architectural films to choose from! Window films come in different shades or transparencies, so there will be a film shade perfect for you and your needs. For example, in the reflective range, it goes from the darkest, which will look exactly like a mirror from the outside and then the lightest, which just makes the glass look a little bit coloured from the outside. With lots of varying shades in between. With Happy Tint, you are encouraged to book a FREE, no obligation, Quote where a Quoter can recommend films and show you various Samples in the environment in which the film will be installed.

How Much Privacy

Q. How much Privacy will the film achieve?

A. It is always a balancing act when choosing the right film for your home. Obviously the darker you go the more Privacy will be achieved. Many customers are concerned about light loss, so it would depend on your personal preferences. For example, your house is right on the street so the front windows maybe slightly darker for Privacy, whilst you sliding doors at the back bring in a lot of natural light, so you might want to have a lighter film since Privacy isn’t an issue there. No additional charge for different films around the house.

North/West Aspect

Q. My house is North/West facing what window film do you recommend?

A. House and window orientation is very crucial in the decision-making process. North and West facing windows generally get the most amount of sun, so Heat Reduction and Sun & Glare issues seem to be the most prominent requests. Reflective films can really assist with the impact of the UV, reduce the morning or afternoon’s intense sun & glare, and significantly reduce the heat. Particularly on windows that have sun on them all day round.

In summary the direction of window; North, West facing windows get the most sun, you may wish to go slightly darker on these windows. On the other hand, South / East facing windows get the least amount of sun, so it would be advisable to go for a lighter film for these windows.

Reduce Fading

Q. The sun is damaging my couches, carpets and floorboards? What can I do?

A. All of our films come with a 99% UV block which can help reduce fading. Window tinting can really help with reducing the impact of the harsh sun and is a very popular reasons for installing tint.

No More Day-Time Blinds

Q. My blinds are down all the time because I need the privacy, but it makes my house dark and depressing. What can I do?

A. Window tinting is perfect for daytime privacy, it does not impact the view, and you can see out whilst people walking past cannot see in. And at night time, when there is nothing to see, you just close your curtains or blinds 😊

Tint for Day. Blinds for Night

Q. I am trying to decide between window tinting versus blinds?

A. Blinds are great for privacy, but unfortunately some people find they keep the blinds down day and night for privacy. Window tinting can give you great daytime privacy, you can see out without interruption, but no one can see in. You can literally bring the garden into the home and be at one with your surroundings. Window tinting can also help with reducing the heat, help with the sun & glare, and reduce the UV damage from the sun.

Thousands of Choices

Q. I do not like mirror film what are the options?

A. There are literally thousands of films to choose from! Different colours and shades, different transparencies and some films can have dual purposes. Just book in a FREE, no obligation, measure and quote and someone will come to you to show you various samples so you can choose the aesthetics and the function of your window film.

Double-Glazed Windows

Q. Can I tint double-glazed windows?

A. Yes, we can tint double glazed windows. ONLY certain films can be used, so you really need so expert advice when deciding.

Reduce Heat

Q. Help, I need help with the Heat in my upstairs bedroom, it is like a sauna in there! How much can window tinting assist with Heat reduction?

A. The film can reflect the heat away from coming through the glass initially and can reduce the Heat between 50%-80% - depending on which film type you choose.

Reduce Glare

Q. It is autumn, and I get blinding afternoon sun coming in, and I can’t see my computer. Is window tinting a solution?

A. Yes, window tinting can be like sunglasses for your Home or Office. Window film can significantly reduce the intensity of the sun to make it bearable.

Safety Film

Q. My house is older, and the glass in the windows is very thin. What can I do to make it safe for my children?

A. You can tint the windows to make them safer in case of glass breakages. Instead of the film shattering into glass shards that can be a hazard with children and pets. Clear Safety film can be applied to your windows so should the glass break, the film will hold the glass together. Safety film can also help with burglars trying to break into your home with the glass staying together and intact, it makes break-ins more difficult.

Security Film

Q. What is a security film?

A. Security and Safety films are classed together. They come in a range of thicknesses, from 4mm, 6mm, and 7mm, all the way to bomb-proof for organisations like banks. Safety film can also be used for kids’ safety, thin glass, structural integrity, preventing animals from scratching the glass, protecting against graffiti, and making break-ins more difficult.

We can also install safety film as a legal requirement for certain business standards, such as Australian Safety for building standards (converting homes to childcare centres). We can also provide you with a safety Certificate of Compliance.

Cool in Summer. Warm in Winter.

Q. Window tinting can help with keeping the Heat OUT during the summer time, but does it also have insulative qualities to keep the heat IN during winter time?

A. Certain window films perform best in reducing heat in summer through Heat Reflection; however, some films can also retain Heat in winter through thermal retention.

There is also a special window film specifically for this that performs just as well as double glazing but without the hefty price tag of changing the glass.

Services for Builders

Q. I am a builder, what services do you offer that would be relevant to me?

A. We often have great long-term alliances with multiple building companies. We can help with overlooking height, obscure film, safety bands and decals. We can even assist with blacking out window areas to hide the view of storage or cables. We have safety and graffiti film to prevent breakages and can assist with achieving Compliance Certificates for sign offs.

Frost. Patterns. Logos.

Q. Can I get Frost Films with patterns? Can I add my business logo?

A. Yes, we can assist with special custom window tinting jobs for office spaces, including privacy bands and partitioning. We can imprint your logo into the window film to cater to any colour or decorative design. The possibilities are endless, so just book a FREE, no-obligation Quote, and let’s explore further!

Installed Inside or Outside

Q. Is it installed on the inside or outside?

A. Most of our window films are installed inside, so you have a Lifetime Warranty. However, issues or circumstances may arise where internal application is not possible or the best solution, so external films are available.

Cleaning

Q: How can you clean tinted windows?

You can easily clean your tinted windows with just warm water and a soft microfibre cloth. Make sure you are always gentle because you want to prevent scratching the film. We recommend a solution of methylated spirits (20%) and water (80%). DO NOT USE Windex, Ajax, Jiff or Bon Ami. We recommend not to clean or touch the tinted windows for 4 weeks after application, the windows need time to cure/dry.

Bubbles

Q: I have bubbles, is it normal? How long do they take to go away?

A: Not to worry, bubbles are at times visible and are a natural part of the drying process. It is just trapped moisture that needs the sun and heat to slowly evaporate, and then the window film will look like they were never there.

Sound

Q: Can window tinting assist with sound?

A: In short no, unfortunately.

No Light Loss

Q: Can I have full privacy with no light loss?

A: There is always a balance between the level of Privacy you desire and the light compensation. With so many films and options there will always be a film that meets your needs. No window film exists with full privacy and no light loss. If there was, we would be very happy indeed!

Warranty

Q: What is the warranty period?

A: We offer a Lifetime Warranty on all of our window films. Happy Tint can offer this because we only use the best quality films on the market. The only exception is our external window films, which have a limited warranty due to their exposure to the elements (rain, sun, weather, etc.). Limited warranty periods would be dependent on film type.

Skylights

Q: My skylight is lovely, but sometimes it gets very hot. Can you tint a skylight?

A: Yes, we can tint skylights. There are internal and external films available. Happy Tint staff will come out for a FREE, no-obligation quote and assessment.  We will guide you on the best options, most suited to your needs.

Difficult-Shaped Windows

Q: I have a difficult-shaped window. I am unable to put a blind on it, can window film be an option?

A: Yes, in this scenario window tinting is your answer! Since window film can be cut to any size or shape, we can accommodate triangles, semi-circles, hexagons, parallelograms, trapeziums etc. We have tinted portholes right through to high up highlight windows, we do them all - just book in a FREE, no obligation, measure and Quote!

Large Windows

Q: I have a huge picture window; can I tint it?

A: Yes, you can tint a very large window, but in some cases, a “join” may be required since window films come in a maximum roll length of 1828mm. Any measurement greater would require a vertical or horizontal join that appears seamless or very subtle. You can always have a FREE, no-obligation site consultation to discuss this further.

How Much to Tint a Window

Q: How much does it cost to tint one standard window?

A: How long is a piece of string? There is no “standard” window size, and other factors, such as the style and period of the home, come into play. Varying factors include the era that your house was built (the early 1900s, 1950s with high ceiling), style of building (modern, apartment, townhouse or commercial units etc.), floor-to-ceiling windows, bay windows, colonial style windows (with lots of little squares) or long and skinny windows. We advise you to make use of our FREE, no obligation, measure and Quote with our friendly team, so you can be pleasantly surprised at how cost-agreeable window tinting is 😊

Minimum Charge

Q: How much is your minimum charge?

A: Our minimum charge is $300 for anything under 3m2. You may want to consider getting some other windows tinted to make it more cost-effective, but it's totally up to you. The more you get tinted, the more cost-effective your quote becomes.

Phone Quotes

Q: I don’t want anyone to come out, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time…  I am just wanting a Quote over the phone?

A: You are not wasting anyone’s time at all! It is our Quoters’ job to drive around and to provide in-person Quotes. We offer FREE, No Obligation, Measures & Quotes. Yes, it is FREE! It is a great opportunity to ask any questions, see samples and get a real insight into what films will look like in your space. Just simply call 1800 427 798, and our friendly Home & Office Division can book your appointment.

The great benefits of getting an in-person Quote are to get real advice on your particular space, a comprehensive idea of cost and discussion and examples of various film types. The Quote is a great introduction to our Happy Tint team, we pride ourselves on being friendly, professional and cost effective.

Which Window Tint

Q: Which window tint should I choose?

A: There is SOOO much more to tinting than what you may be thinking right now. There are endless benefits all year round that can help improve your living environment. But what film is right for you and your house may vary from building to building.

Factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing your window film; glass type (toughen, laminated, Low-E, double glazed, triple glazed), building orientation (North, West, South, East facing), architectural features (veranda, eaves, porches), and the era of which the house/commercial complex, was constructed.

Large Tint Jobs

Q: Do you tint large commercial factories or large office spaces?

A: No job too big or small for us. Commercial window tinting…. We can Quote large tender jobs with our high workmanship and great range of quality window films, all for very competitive prices. We have completed works for; Government buildings, schools (public and private), warehouses, childcare facilities, aged care and retirement villages, restaurants, shops, retail buildings, offices and much more!

Installation

Q: Can you install the same day you Quote?

A: The first step is to receive a FREE, no obligation onsite measure and quote.  When you receive a free Quote from Happy Tint you are having the best advice possible. The same goes with our installers, all they do is install window film, so they have refined their craft to an impeccable standard. Unlike other smaller “one-man band”, we have hundreds of films in stock to choose from. (Not just 3 rolls of basic film). All of our jobs are cut in a special cutting room to size, so you know that your job will be done custom to your windows.

Time to Installation

Q: How soon after the Quote can you install?

A: As soon as we receive your Go Ahead for the Quote, Happy Tint staff will get the film cut and ready to go. Installation typically happens within 1-2 weeks. Let us know if you have a specific day or deadline and we can typically accommodate since we have a large team of installers. Just let us know and we will always do our best to cater.

Film Brands

Q: What brands of film do you use?

A: We primarily use Solar Gard and Avery Dennison window films. However, we are an independent company (not franchised), so we can source any specific brands of films you require.

Rough Price Idea

Q: Can I get a rough ballpark idea of how much window tinting will cost?

A: If you can provide the measurements, we can provide a rough estimate of how much it will cost. However, this is only a rough estimate and is subject to an on-site visit prior to installation. We highly recommend not just ringing around just to get the cheapest price out there. There is always cheaper but it may be cheaper for a reason... poorer quality films that would fade over time, and an installer who will never answer your calls again or fix any warranties in years to come. You may have noticed terrible examples of cheaper polyester films that are commonly used because they go a shade of purple after 2-3 years. Happy Tint, on the other hand, is an established company that only uses the best quality films, and our awesome reputation has been strengthened over many years of hard work in the industry. Just Google Product Review to begin your research 😊

Broken Window

Q: I have a broken window; can you tint it to match the existing windows?

A: We keep all of our jobs on record, including what film is installed in each room. If you ever have a broken window, just contact us after the glass is replaced, and we can re-tint that window to match the existing one. We do not charge our minimum charge for this service, only the cost of the film. This is just another way we look after our valued past customers.

Service Areas

Q: Do you service country areas?

A: Happy Tint Head Office is based in Nunawading; however, we service ALL of metropolitan Melbourne including the Mornington Peninsula, and outskirts of Melbourne. Our installers live in the West, North, East and South East so we frequent these areas weekly. If you are in a country area, always give us a call since we do roam around large distances across the state; so, any opportunity we will be out there to help you.

Condensation

Q: Are there window films that can help with condensation?

A: Yes, window tinting can assist with the condensation issue. It does not solve it completely, but it does improve it by up to 80%. If condensation is your issue, our Quoter will go through the 3-4 things you must do to solve it totally. Just call the Happy Tint office and speak to our friendly staff on 1800 427 798 to arrange a FREE onsite consultation.
